Atlas of Chettinad

In 2009, in the framework of the international cooperation programme with the State of Tamil Nadu, the French Regional Council, RĂ©gion Centre has voted a grant for the Chettinad Project, co-financed by the French Ministry of External Affairs. The programme aims at sensitizing the stakeholders on heritage issues of the Chettinad region. A series of village portraits have been realized from June to December 2009 by the technical team comprised of geographers, architects and urban planners from Inda and France.

The purpose of the village portraits is to carry on thematic collect of data and to undertake an in-depth analysis of some key villages in order to provide good understanding to the local communities and authorities of Chettinad. The local team started with a perimeter of 9 villages and sub villages amongst the 73 spread over the region.
